Is the Water Warm, Yet?

Eastern Bluebird waiting his turn at the hot tub...
Yesterday, the day began at 14 degrees  and stayed low. Lately, temps had been rising easily into the 50's, so I had put the birdbath on a timer so as not to waste energy during the daylight hours.

Yesterday that setting was deemed inadequate, and I was hearing about it. Had to go inactivate the timer. In the meantime, we kept getting these looks. Like the one from this patient little bluebird. Funniest-discontent-award goes to a robin, however, that had come in, with his belly feathers already fluffed out sideways anticipating the hot tub--horribly disappointed to find the ice!

I think that's a bluebird!

Yes, it is--my writing was unclear! He sat up there and waited for everyone else to clear out. The robin had strutted in earlier... sorry about that!

Wonderful to see that you have bluebirds too! (I understood you fine, if that helps any. ;) )

Funny how you describe the situation with the robin...I guess I'd be disgruntled too if I was ready for a hot bath and found ice.

The teaser blurb about the blog starts with "Eastern Bluebird waiting his turn at the hot tub..." but when I click to read the whole post, that sentence is nowhere in sight. Weird.

Ellen, that sentence was hidden under the photo as a caption. Just out of curiosity, does anyone else not see it? If so, what browser are you using? Inquiring minds want to know! :)

The robin was hysterical. Had it been possible to video the little sinner, I would have. He did, in fact, STRUT through the starlings, sending out those belly feathers like a skirt...stepped on the ice and just immediately deflated. Poor guy!

I do see it now - I swear I didn't before! I use Firefox.

On Chrome 17.0.963.46 m, I see the caption that Ellen lost. Your description of the prideful robin is fantastic --I feel as if I'd seen a video!

Poor Robin, beautiful Bluebird & lucky all to have your "hot tub". I also provide the birds warm water w/ a heater :-)
